Power technique #230: Relooking at the meaning of ‘Work’...
Quote of the day: “In every situation, there is always a bigger picture and a greater purpose – don’t miss it!”
I recently read an interesting analogy on how people define ‘work’. Imagine a situation where you have to train a monkey on reciting a Shakespeare play while sitting on a pedestal. If you were given finite amounts of time and money, how would you allocate it? The ideal (and may be obvious) answer is to immediately start training the monkey and focus on the pedestal later. But, majority of the times, people tend to rush to build a great-looking pedestal. The reason being – if anyone asks for a status update, there is something tangible to show rather than a long list of methods you tried to train the monkey and that none of them really worked. The pedestal, or, an easy tangible win, may be seen as progress, but training the monkey, or, the almost impossible task ahead, is far more valuable.
We tend to focus so much on the daily tasks, that we often forget the objective of those tasks. We may build our pedestal, but it shouldn’t come at the cost of delays in working on the ultimate goal. It’s important to focus on what’s urgent, but not at the cost of what’s important!
After all…

Welcome to #eNpoweringMinds by me, Namita Shah. I am an entrepreneur by day, a doodler by night, and a dreamer beyond the morning light 😉
After (crushing) chartered accountancy and law, I woke up from my hibernation of comfort and decided to take a plunge into my biggest challenge yet - entrepreneurship. I like to believe I kick ass everyday to make a difference in the lives of people around me, while being mindful of what life teaches me - to be humble and to be kind.
